Martial Arts Super Sport (MASS) Announces Inaugural Event
By: Mike Thorwart of MMA Melee, April 9th, 2011 9:12 A.M.
Can you remember the first time you watched mixed martial arts (MMA)? I can...and from that moment on I knew it was going to become the fastest growing sport in the world. Now, can you remember the first time you dreamt about being in it? Whether it was being a fighter, announcer, journalist or even President of a MMA organization like Dana White? I’m sure one man can.
Mike Malast turned his dream into reality. This man took an idea, a dream may have you and turned it into the top social network for Mixed Martial Arts. MMA Melee the Community of Combat now averages 2.5 million views a month and has only been operating a year and a half. The dream didn't stop there. It only opened more doors as MMA Melee started sponsoring an elite team of fighters from all over the country including UFC and Ultimate Fighter Season 12 Finalist Kris "Savage" Mccray. Sponsoring fighters only lead to more opportunities for Mike. He quickly started managing top prospects in undefeated fighters Jimy "The Kid" Hettes 11-0 (Pro 7-0) and T-Rex Harris (8-0). Now his career path lead him to what seems to be destiny. Mike will now be President of a Professional MMA Franchise known as Martial Arts Super Sport (MASS).
The league will be based out of Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Pennsylvania. Cities and Metropolitan areas often see positive results when new business and sports franchises move to the area. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton is already home to the New York Yankees and Pittsburg Penguins Minor League Teams and now will formally be known as the home of MASS. The Inaugural Event of Martial Arts Super Sport will be taking place July 16th, 2011 at the Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza in Wilkes-Barre, PA.
What started out as a dream, turned into almost 2 full years of grinding, late nights, failures, highs/lows, missed opportunities but all the prayers and determination he demonstrated has finally paid off.
Malast who is undoubtedly one, if not the youngest fight promoter in the nation. At just 27 years of age he has helped many fighters, promoters, managers, journalists and even radio hosts get to the next step of their careers.
Mike Kelly Owner and On Air Talent of MMA 3:15 Radio said "Before MMA Melee entered our lives we used to interview ourselves and just talk about the fight game. Soon as Malast became our Program Director I started to see it come together. Now regularly we have some of the biggest names in the game on our show including TapouT, Greg Jacksons, Jens Pulver"
This event will also be marked down in the history books for the Mohegan Sun Arena, as the MASS - Inauguration will be the first MMA event ever hosted at the venue. When I asked Mike about the historical event he made the following comment "I'm just glad to be able to provide a place for these athletes to showcase their talent. MMA has only been legal in PA for 2 years, the sport's still in its infancy. Fight night for these fighters is as important as their wedding day. All their time, blood, sweat and tears go into their preparation for this one night. I'm just trying to make it as grand as possible for them."
Personally I'd like to thank him on behalf of myself for giving me a chance to pursue my passion and become a writer in the sport I love. I'd also like to welcome everyone out to what is sure to be the first of many amazing shows. At this time contract negotiations are underway and tickets are scheduled to go on sale April 18th. Mike also added “Any fighter interested in getting on this card e-mail contact@worldclassmass.com"
